Marshall County Reports 3 New COVID-Related Deaths

The Marshall County Health Department on Thursday announced three new COVID-19-related deaths in the county, the second straight day that the department has reported at least one new COVID death.

The three on Thursday were a 46-year-old woman and 70-year-old woman who were hospitalized at the time of their deaths, and a 92-year-old woman who was a resident of a long-term care facility at the time of her death.

The department also announced 21 new confirmed positive COVID cases and 19 new probable cases in Marshall County. The MCHD is directing people to the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 dashboard for its latest totals. According to that dashboard, the county has 2,918 confirmed cases, 1,189 probable cases and 86 related deaths.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department currently updates its COVID numbers weekly on Sundays. According to the DHHR dashboard, Ohio County has 3,578 confirmed cases, 1,330 probable cases and 89 related deaths. Both health departments are offering walk-in vaccination clinics today from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at their respective headquarters — 1500 Chapline St. in Wheeling for Ohio County and 513 6th St. in Moundsville for Marshall County.

Marshall County was red, the highest-risk category, on the DHHR COVID-19 alert map on Thursday. Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties all were orange, one rung below red. There were two counties in yellow, the second-safest category on the map, one county in gold, 15 counties in orange and 37 were red.

According to the DHHR dashboard Thursday, there were 18,177 active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia. There were only 882 active cases in West Virginia on July 9.

There were 670 people hospitalized with COVID-19 according to the Thursday dashboard. Two hundred were in intensive care units and 109 were on ventilators, a new pandemic high.
