Dunkin’ Coming to Moundsville Next Year

Moundsville soon will be running on Dunkin'.

A sign in front of the Walmart on W.Va. 2 in Moundsville is announcing the coming of a Dunkin' Donuts franchise to the area. No other information was listed on the sign other than "coming soon" and an email to contact the company for possible employment.

Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy said the new location will be built on the southwest corner of the property in front of the Walmart, right behind where the "Coming Soon" sign currently stands. He added that the city was told construction should begin in earnest after the holidays and the restaurant could open by May.

Currently there are no Dunkin' Donuts spots in either Ohio County or Marshall County, though there are some within driving distance. The popular donut and coffee shop has sites in Weirton, Steubenville, Wintersville, Belmont and Washington, Pennsylvania.

"Everybody's excited about it," Healy said. "It's obviously going to draw its traffic from the locals. There are a lot of people talking about it and a lot of people excited about it. It's in a high-traffic location ... but once they get open, those folks who want that Dunkin' coffee or donut will head to Moundsville. And once they're here, hopefully they'll do some other things as well and see what we have to offer."

The email for possible employment on the sign outside the Moundsville Walmart leads back to the Heartland Restaurant Group. According to the company's website, the Pittsburgh-based Heartland owns more than four dozen Dunkin' Donuts franchises.

Officials for Heartland Restaurant Group could not be reached for comment Wednesday, nor could a spokesperson for the national Dunkin' Donuts company.
