WHEELING - Nearly 10,000 residents in Ohio and Marshall counties remained without power Saturday as crews from Appalachian Power continued efforts to restore electricity following Thursday ice storm.

In Belmont County, more than 2,500 residents remained without power Saturday.

Power throughout the region is expected to be fully restored by late Monday evening.

According to Appalachian Power spokeswoman Joelle Moray, there currently are about 315 line workers in Ohio and Marshall counties working on downed lines and other electrical issues, with 215 of them traveling here from outside the region. As of Saturday, there are nearly 200 placed where repairs are necessary in the region.

"Despite the challenging weather and travel conditions, progress is being made. (Friday), crews restored service to roughly 3,000 customers in the Wheeling area affected by the storm," a statement from Appalachian Power said.

Crews are reporting downed lines as the primary cause of outages in the area.

As heavy ice build-up on our facilities lingers due to freezing temperatures, additional damage may occur due to fallen trees and limbs, the statement said.
