Ohio County Family Resource Network Food Pantry, Medical Services Offered Wednesday Outside Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack

WHEELING -- The Ohio County Family Resource Network will offer free food and medical care to the public at an event this week on Wheeling Island.
The FRN will bring its Mobile Food Pantry to the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in lots C and D. The FRN is partnering with the Mountaineer Food Bank for the free distribution of food items.
In addition, Wheeling Health Right and UniCare Health Plan will be present to administer COVID-19 Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccinations and boosters.
And the FRN is collaborating with Cornerstone Care and Adagio Health to provide women mobile medical and reproductive services at the event. For questions or to make an appointment for low or no cost care with the Cornerstone Care Mobile Medical Unit call 724-705-3195, though appointments are not required.
Mountaineer Food Bank will provide meat, vegetables, milk, bread and more to those who drive through during the distribution. No income verification or ID is required, although participants will need to provide a West Virginia address.
Participants in the mobile food pantry may receive one box per vehicle. If there are two adults from two different households in a vehicle, they may be asked to drive through twice.
Safety protocols also will be in place during the distribution event. Food boxes will only be placed in trunks, not inside vehicles.
If participants do not have space for boxes in their trunk, they will be asked to pull to the side to clear space.
The FRN hosted a similar food distribution and medical care event back in December. Two more events are set to happen this year, with the next planned for sometime in June and another in October, according to Claudia Raymer, executive director of the Ohio County Family Resource Network.
"Food distribution is possible with Mountaineer Food Bank due to Wheeling Island Casino graciously donating their parking lot, and through volunteers from Williams Energy and a variety of area nonprofits -- including the Ohio County Food Security Team," Raymer said.
Anyone who is unable to attend the mobile food pantry event on Wednesday still may access food by visiting one of the many "blessing boxes" located in Ohio County.
Blessing boxes are 24-hour food pantries placed throughout the county at locations including The Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling, Bethlehem Elementary, Bridge Street Middle School, The Elks Lodge in South Wheeling, Greggsville Park, Garden Park in Warwood, Valley Grove Community Center and the West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department.
Those wanting more information about the blessing boxes or the mobile food pantry, should contact Raymer at 304-232-5600, or email OhioCountyFRN@yahoo.com.
