Wheeling Police Continue To Investigate Island Shooting Death

WHEELING - Wheeling police still are investigating the shooting death of a man that happened Saturday evening on Wheeling Island.

Wheeling Police Department spokesman Philip Stahl said Sunday that no arrests had been made related to the shooting.

"At this time we are still actively investigating and don't have any new information to release at this time," Stahl said. "No arrests have been made. We hope to have more (information to release) on Monday."

The shooting took place in the 100 block of South Huron Street at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The closest business is the Smoker Friendly shop.

The man who was shot was taken to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital for treatment, but later died. The victim's name still had not been released at press time.

On Sunday afternoon, passersby could see a makeshift memorial had been erected on a sidewalk on the block where the shooting took place. It included wooden letters making the initials "TJ" and included flowers, candles and a toy lamb. Written in black spray paint were the words "Dad" and "RIP" and "I love you."
