Just in time to celebrate National Doctors Day today, the Ohio County Medical Society Alliance has made a $5,000 donation to the West Liberty University Foundation for its physician assistant master's degree program.

"In celebration of 80 years of the Alliance, we thought this would also be an appropriate way to honor our local doctors. Physicians know that PAs have become an integral part of the health care team caring for and promoting the well-being of patients.

"We are happy to help students preparing for this career," said Lynn Comerci, committee member of the OCMSA.

WLU Foundation President Angie Zambito-Hill said the gift will be added to the PA Program Scholarship endowment fund started last year by Dr. Howard Shackelford and Dr. Robert Wetzel.

The Foundation has $23,000 in the fund and this gift will grow the fund to the endowment minimum of $25,000 or more thus, officially endowing the PA Program Scholarship.

West Liberty University's master's degree program in physician assistant studies is a 24-month, year-round course of studies that begins each year in July. Fully accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, it includes one year of didactic, in-classroom work, and a second year of clinical rotations under the supervision of licensed clinical preceptors.
