TRIADELPHIA — Two people are dead and one more was hospitalized in a multi-car crash on Interstate 70 West that has closed both lanes.

Ohio County Emergency Management Agency Director Lou Vargo said the crash involved two tractor-trailers, a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck towing a trailer. The vehicles were entering the construction zone near the West Virginia-Pennsylvania border when they collided.

Two people were killed in the crash and a third was taken to the hospital. Vargo did not have an update on the condition of the hospitalized person, nor could he release the identities of those killed, as their families had not yet been notified.

Traffic on I-70 West in Pennsylvania was being diverted to U.S. 40 at West Alexander. Vargo said at 4 p.m. Tuesday that the interstate could be closed for another couple of hours.

Ohio County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the crash Tuesday afternoon and crews were still removing the wreckage, Vargo said. There also was a large diesel fuel spill. Vargo said the Department of Environmental Protection has talked to the trucking company, which had a hazmat contractor coming to clean up the spill.
