MOUNDSVILLE - The drive-thru stretched onto the highway in anticipation of a chain restaurant opening its doors in Moundsville Monday morning.
Dunkin' Donuts held its grand opening Monday, with cars lining back to W.Va. 2 and a crowd gathered at the doors to welcome the eagerly-anticipated restaurant, located near Burger King and Walmart.
Larry Mench, vice-president of operations for the Heartland Restaurant Group, said they were pleased with the location near one of Marshall County's biggest retailers, and was happy to see the enthusiasm among locals.
"We're happy to be here. Moundsville is a place we've been looking at for quite some time," Mench said. "We've worked with council members and others in the city, and we're happy to be able to land this property. We never thought we'd be on the Walmart pad, we've been trying to do that for a long time. We're super excited to finally get here, and thankful that Moundsville's embraced us and given us every opportunity to do well."
During the ribbon cutting, Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy echoed those sentiments, saying that the city had been getting increasingly frequent calls asking when Dunkin' Donuts would finally be open.
"We get a lot of calls about things, and we get a lot of excitement when something new's coming, but this was just amazing, the amount of calls and excitement over this. Social media's crazy about Dunkin'," Healy said. "We're glad you're here."
