Local residents are being advised to be alert this evening for high winds, rain and possible tornadoes as a patch of severe weather crosses through the area.
At about 5:45 p.m., the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh noted a 64 mph wind gust at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport. Hail also is being reported in the region.
A severe thunderstorm watch also is in effect for many area counties.
