River Valley Health Foundation ‘Sharing the Season of Giving’

By JOSELYN KING 2 min read

WHEELING - The River Valley Health Foundation is making plans for "Sharing the Season of Giving" as it hosts its second annual fundraiser.

The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. at Oglebay's Pine Room on Dec. 2 with dinner, drinks, and both a live and silent auction.

Organized by the foundation's staff and board, this event will generate funds for its annual December grant giving season, explained Cynthia Morrison, executive director of River Valley Health.

River Valley Health has a goal of raising $20,000 at the Dec. 2 holiday fundraiser.

Last year, River Valley Health Foundation awarded 17 nonprofit organizations in the Ohio Valley with more than $86,000 in funds provided for health and wellness needs through its efforts.

One of those organizations receiving funds was Wheeling Health Right.

"Thanks to the River Valley Health Foundation, Wheeling Health Right is able to provide the necessary resources for our blessings box," said Kathie Brown, executive director of Wheeling Health Right. "The Wheeling Health Right blessings box helps to end hunger so that no one must choose between food and other necessities like medicine or childcare.

"With inflation leaving families in our neighborhoods finding it harder and harder to make ends meet, it is more important than ever. The blessings box contains shelf-stable items to help supplement the needs of families who are struggling.

"Some of the more popular items have been canned meat, feminine and personal hygiene items, hats, gloves, and items for children," she added. "Since the inception of the blessings box, the contents are emptied on a daily basis. Thanks to the River Valley Health Foundation, we are able to keep the blessings box sufficiently stocked."

This year's program sponsors include McKinley & Carter Wealth Services; Jay Frey and Michael Hires; Peter Holloway; Lee Ridenhour and Eriks Janelsins; Security National Trust; Felton & Felton; PJ and Kathleen McDermott; Doug Carl and Sumner Riddick; WesBanco; and Carenbauer Distributing.

Tickets are $75 per person or $135 per couple and can be purchased by contacting Cynthia Morrison at cynthia@rivervalleyhf.org or by buying online at Funds - Treasured Memories Community Funding (tmcfunding.com).
