WEIRTON – Gov. Jim Justice will visit the area Friday to officially sign legislation that will provide funding toward a proposed battery manufacturing facility to be built in Weirton.
According to an announcement from the Governor’s Office, Justice will be in Weirton at 2:30 p.m. to sign House Bill 2882, which transfers $115 million in surplus revenue from the last fiscal year to the Department of Economic Development. Of those funds, $105 million has been designated for the project by Form Energy to construct a large-scale manufacturing facility for its iron-air batteries.
Form Energy selected a 55-acre site within the Frontier Crossing development in Weirton for its facility, choosing Weirton over hundreds of options over 16 states.
The facility is expected to create approximately 750 jobs.
