UPDATE: Oil Mud Leakage Coats 14 Miles Of Marshall County Roads

Oil mud leakage is the culprit for the Monday morning closure of several roads in Marshall County, according to the West Virginia Division of Highways.
According to DOH, an oil and gas truck traveled more than 14 miles on WV 2 and county routes while leaking drilling fluid. That led to the closure of Roberts Ridge Road from Fallen Timber Lane to Lindsay Lane Road, all of Lindsay Lane Road and Round Bottom Hill Road. Those roads will be closed for the rest of Monday.
WV 2 also was impacted by the leakage just south of Moundsville, but crews have that 2.5 portion of road reopened. A clay and sand-based absorbent material was placed on that roadway to help dry it.
The truck was headed to a site run by EQT and Tug Hill. The companies are hiring a professional contractor to clean the closed roadways. The spill, along with Monday’s snowy and wet conditions, caused slippery roadways.
WVDOH is monitoring the cleanup and advises motorists to avoid the areas. The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has staff on site and no environmental impacts have been observed.

A substance spilled on roadways on Roberts Ridge in Marshall County has several roads closed.
Marshall County EMA Director Tom Hart said, according to the West Virginia Division of Highways, the spill goes from Lindsay Lane to Roberts Ridge to Bowman Ridge to Sally’s Backbone Road to Fish Creek Road to a site of oil and natural gas companies Tug Hill and EQT. Hart did not know what the substance was or when the cleanup would be completed.
The call concerning the spill came to the 911 center around midnight, Hart said. The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection also was notified overnight. DOH was working with the companies to bring in an environmental contractor to clean up the spill, Hart said.
