MOUNDSVILLE – The city of Moundsville will soon be home to another major grocery chain. Aldi is on its way.
Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy said that, according to information from Aldi, the new store is expected to open this coming fall.
It will be built at the site of the former Shop N Save location along W.Va. 2 that is currently being razed to make way for Aldi.
In an email from Aldi shared by Healy, the company states it plans to hold a grand opening ceremony to commemorate the new store opening.
“More details on the opening timing and ceremony will become available as the opening date approaches,” Aldi noted.

The next closest Aldi store is located in St. Clairsville. There are 15 other Aldi stores in West Virginia including one in Weirton and one in Parkersburg. There are 156 Aldi stores in Ohio including one in Steubenville.
Aldi stores have their own brands and some national brands. It sells dairy and eggs, fresh produce, fresh meat and seafood, deli meats and cheeses, frozen foods, bakery items and bread, snacks, breakfast items and cereal, beverages, pet supplies, household products, personal care, and seasonal products.
Moundsville is already home to two other national grocery chains – Kroger and Walmart – as well as locally owned Greg’s Market.
The Aldi shopping experience is a little different than the typical grocery store. To access carts, patrons are asked to give a quarter that is refunded when the cart is put back. Bags are available for a cost so customers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags.
Aldi also features Aldi weekly finds, which is a rotating selection of limited-time products including premium foods to household items based on the season. For example, during the week of May 10-16, Aldi will feature items for Mother’s Day, May 14, including tulip bouquets for $4.99, a “Best Mom Ever” coffee mug planter for $4.49 and more.
