The former Berry Kitchen and Supply building, shown here Wednesday on Water Street, is being redeveloped into Waterfront Hall by local businessman Dan Milleson.

WHEELING – After nearly two and a half years without a permanent home, it appears Avenue Eats is locating to Wheeling’s waterfront.

On its Facebook page Sunday, the new Waterfront Hall at Wheeling’s Heritage Port posted: “Avenue Eats, welcome to Waterfront Hall. We plan to make something fun for all of you. Coming mid-summer 2023!”

Dan Milleson, developer at Waterfront Hall, didn’t immediately answer messages Monday seeking further comment.

Meanwhile, Avenue Eats Facebook page this weekend featured a posting of some restaurant equipment and the words, “Coming soon.”

Avenue Eats owner Lara Graves also did not immediately respond to messages left on Monday.

The last two summers have seen Avenue Eats flipping burgers at Nicky’s Garden Center, but another posting from the restaurant indicates they won’t be there this year.

“After two incredible summers at Nicky’s Garden Center, we have decided to not open there this season,” the posting states. “We are forever grateful for the opportunity and love the Lenz family extended to us when we needed it most and you, our friends, will certainly be the first to know when our little eatery gets back on its feet.”

Avenue Eats previously had a home at 1201 Valley View Ave. in Woodsdale, but the business was destroyed by a fire the morning of Nov. 1, 2020.

The Wheeling Fire Department’s Bureau of Fire Investigations later ruled the fire accidental. Surveillance video showed the fire started from a heat source coming from the exterior of the building, and the fire was not suspicious in nature, according to the fire department.

Starting at $2.99/week.
