WHEELING -- The Rotary Club of Wheeling is getting ready to bring its annual fundraising, palate-pleasing extravaganza back to Centre Market, and this year’s beneficiary will be Orchard Park Hospital.
The annual Taste of the Market will take place from 5-8 p.m. on May 18.
Members of the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend this fun event and important fundraiser for the club, which is dedicated to the Rotary mission of "Doing Good in the World" by giving back to the community.
Admission is $30, and a smorgasbord of samples from Centre Market’s food vendors will be featured. Unique merchandise and items from other Centre Market businesses will be showcased, and there will be entertainment, silent auction items, a 50-50 raffle, beverages and more. Beer and wine will be available, and there will be outdoor music from 7-9 p.m. featuring MSM - Miller, Smith and Mazure.
All of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Orchard Park Hospital, a nonprofit subsidiary of the Children’s Home of Wheeling, to support the renovation and opening of a 30-bed adolescent acute care psychiatric hospital on the former Robert C. Byrd Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center.
"We really appreciate being named the Taste of the Market beneficiary this year," said Greg Marquart, president of The Children’s Home of Wheeling Foundation, Inc., "not just for the money, but also for the public awareness. It lets people know what the Children’s Home is doing and about the facility that will be available. The community and the area are in such desperate need for this."
Since the closing of the Robert C. Byrd Center in September 2019, the Wheeling area has been without a hospital-based inpatient psychiatric and behavioral health facility for children, and Rotary officials are offering a way for the community to help the cause by participating in the Taste of the Market.
Aside from attending the event, the community can support the cause by becoming a sponsor. There are different levels of sponsorship opportunities available for individuals and organizations. For those interested in becoming a sponsor for the event, contact Betsy Bethel-McFarland at piperbetsy@yahoo.com.
Tickets to the annual Taste of the Market will be available at the door or in advance online. Visit the Rotary Club of Wheeling’s official Facebook page for more information.
