Wheeling Police Suspect Alcohol Was Factor in Fatal Bethany Pike Crash
WHEELING — A juvenile male was killed and two more people were injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning that closed Bethany Pike for several hours.
A juvenile female and adult male were the other people injured in the crash, which happened around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Wheeling Police Department news release.
Police department spokesman Philip Stahl said all three were taken to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, where the juvenile male died and the other two were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, Stahl said. Police believe alcohol was a factor.
Stahl said Wheeling police and fire were notified about the crash when an individual in the area placed a 911 call.
Stahl said the vehicle was traveling south on Bethany Pike when it lost control near Hogwait Place and crashed into the guardrail, leaving the vehicle in the area of the creek bank.
A portion of Bethany Pike near Howgait Place was closed by police following the crash. The road reopened early Tuesday afternoon.
Officials have not yet released the names of the people involved in the crash.
