MOUNDSVILLE -- Gov. Jim Justice will visit multiple sites in Moundsville today, presenting grants to art organizations and signing a bill that will put millions of dollars into repairing roads.
Justice will begin the day at the West Virginia Division of Highways District 6 headquarters at 1 Dot Drive in Moundsville. There, he will sign Senate Bill 1027, which provides $150 million to the West Virginia Department of Transportation for use in continuing to improve the state's primary and secondary roads.
Of those funds, $100 million will go to maintenance projects, while $50 million will go to equipment. That bill was pushed through the West Virginia Legislature during its recent special session.
State Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston will join Justice at the signing.
Then, at 1 p.m., Justice will be the theater of the Grave Creek Mound Historical Site at 801 Jefferson Ave. in Moundsville. There, Justice and Randall Reid-Smith, the curator for the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, will present grants to arts organizations in Moundsville and surrounding areas.
Grants to be awarded include those in Arts In Education, Arts Partners, Community Arts Project Support, Cultural Facilities and Professional Development for Artists.
Justice has made several appearances in the Northern Panhandle this year.
In January, he was in Wheeling to celebrate the completion of the I-70 Bridges Project and present Betty Woods "Snookie" Nutting with a Distinguished West Virginian Award. In February, he visited Weirton to sign the House bill that will help fund Form Energy's new plant under construction in the city.
In May, he gave the commencement address at Wheeling University. He returned to Wheeling in July, both to help cut the ribbon at the Orchard Park Hospital in Center Wheeling and to make an appearance at the start of the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival in Heritage Port. Also in July, he visited Wellsburg and Chester to award a pair of grants.
