YOUNGSTOWN – U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson will be offered the job as new president of Youngstown State University, the board of trustees voted just moments ago.

The search has been underway in earnest since May after previous President Jim Tressel retired in February.

The vote to offer the job to Johnson was 8-1, with Trustee Molly Seals voting no. Seals said she did not think the congressman was the right person for the job.

Johnson was first elected in 2010 as a Congressman. He serves the 6th Congressional district representing Mahoning, Columbiana and several other southeastern Ohio counties. A message left seeking comment from Johnson was not immediately returned.
