Validated, Free Parking Coming To Downtown Wheeling

Much of Market Street is closed down due to the ongoing Downtown Streetscape Project. Wheeling City Council’s Development Committee is expected to meet to day to discuss potential relief for businesses affected by the work.

The City of Wheeling will allow people to either park free or have their parking validated in certain areas of downtown starting Friday.

The parking changes are part of the city's plan to help businesses struggling for customers as the Downtown Streetscape Project has snarled both Main and Market streets. Drivers can still traverse Main Street, but sections of Market Street are completely closed due to project work there. That has increased the difficulty for people to get to many of the businesses on Market.

There will be free on-street parking for two-hour periods in the areas of downtown where parking meters have been removed and not replaced because of the installation of the new sidewalks that are a part of the Streetscape Project.

There will also be two-hour free parking the 10th Street and Intermodal parking garages on weekdays with a validated ticket. Parking patrons will be required to have their parking garage tickets stamped by the downtown business visited and will not be charged a parking fee when exiting the two parking garages.

Starting at /week.
