WHEELING -- Wheeling Park’s boys swim team used victories in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay, along with a second-place finish in the 4X100 freestyle relay, to pace the field Saturday in winning its own Winter Invitational.
Parkersburg High’s boys finished a distant second, outpacing The Linsly School’s boys squad by three points.
On the girls side of the pool, The Linsly School dominated in the water through several individual performances and also relays, with Parkersburg finishing second and Wheeling Park’s girls third. John Marshall’s girls finished 6th.
BOYS
Park’s 200 medley relay team of Levi Parker, Jackson Kiziminski, Max Hill and Brady Bowie put up a solid performance in topping the field at 1:48.38. Warren High School finished second, more than 5 seconds behind.
In the 200 freestyle, Park’s team of Malachi Smith, Nathan LaMagna, Bowie and Kiziminski out-touched the Linsly squad of Kameron Kezele, Carlin Wong, Colby Gibbons and Mariano Fonseca by .16 seconds -- 1:37.36 for Park, 1:37.52 for Linsly.
Linsly’s 4X100 team of Kezele, Rocco D’Aquila, Fonseca and Gibbons exacted revenge on Park, topping the field in 3:45.60. Park finished second at 3:52.98.
Individually, Park’s Parker and Kiziminski finished 1-2 in the 200 IM; Smith finished second in the 50 freestyle (23.57) and the 100 freestyle (52.83); and Kiziminski finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.01).
For Linsly, Kezele picked up victories in the 200 freestyle (1:56.37) and the 100 butterfly (58.71).
John Marshall’s Wyatt Jefferson captured the 100 breaststroke at 1:06.58.
GIRLS
Linsly used multiple event victories en route to a strong showing. It started in the first event, the 200 medley relay, where the team of Chiara Chieffo, Sarah Coha, Tuana Ozdemir and Anna Norman posted a 1:57.37 for the victory.
In the next event, the 200 freestyle, Chieffo won with a 2:10.27. That was followed in the 200 IM where Linsly’s Ozdemir captured the victory at 2:17.38.
Norman finished a strong second in the 50 free (26.63) while Ozdemir followed in the 100 butterfly with a blistering 59.84 for the win. Norman then captured the 100 freestyle at 1:00.07. Chieffo then earned her second victory of the day in the 100 backstroke (1:07.06).
For Wheeling Park, Abby Heilman captured the 500 freestyle (6:02.92) while finishing third in the 200 freestyle.
John Marshall saw a strong showing from Maitlyn Miller who finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:10.78) and third in the 50 free (26.71).
