Linsly Senior Brooklynn Wayt Named Presidential Scholar Candidate

WHEELING -- A senior at The Linsly School in Wheeling, Brooklynn Wayt, has been named a candidate in the 2024 United States Presidential Scholars Program.
Candidacy in the Presidential Scholars Program is based on a student's performance on the ACT or the College Board SAT.
Of the nearly 3.6 million high school seniors graduating this year, Wayt is one of approximately 5,000 to receive this invitation. After an extensive application process, semifinalists will be named in April and scholars will be chosen in May.
Wayt is the daughter of Drs. Michael and Heather Wayt of Wheeling. She has attended Linsly since the fifth grade.
She currently serves as the Head Prefect at Linsly and she served as a junior prefect on the academic committee last year.
Wayt is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and a two-year member of the National Spanish Honor Society. She is the head editor of the Linsly Line, an active member of 2nd and 7, and a member of the Spanish Club. She also has worked with students as a tutor in a variety of classes.
Wayt's other accolades including being a member of Linsly's varsity soccer team for four years, serving this year as a senior captain. She is a three-time member of the All-OVAC Academic Team. Wayt has been a four-year volunteer for the Wheeling Symphony and a junior volunteer for Wheeling Hospital. She hopes to attend Miami University of Ohio to study Biology and pursue a career as a surgeon.
The Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President and recognizes the accomplishments of some of our nation's most distinguished graduating seniors. Students are selected for leadership and service to school and community and they demonstrate exceptional scholarship; visual, creative and performing arts talent. Up to 161 Presidential Scholars are chosen annually.
The Linsly School, located in Wheeling, was founded in 1814 and is the oldest school of its kind west of the Allegheny Mountains. Linsly began the transition from a military school in 1978 and became co-educational in 1988. Linsly is a college preparatory school serving both young men and women in grades five through twelve for both boarding and day students.
