Moundsville Council, Mayor May See Future Pay Raises

MOUNDSVILLE - Members of the Moundsville City Council will likely receive a pay increase in the future thanks to a proposed ordinance to raise their wages.
During this week's regular meeting, council approved directing the city attorney to draft an ordinance to increase the wages for council and mayor positions.
"That will be on the next council agenda for first reading," City Manager Rick Healy said on Wednesday. "The proposal raises Council pay from $100 per month to $600, and Mayor's $150 per month to $750. It will go into effect as a new council is elected or re-elected."
Healy said the last raises for council and the mayor were done in 2019.
"With employee raises every year, the timing seemed right for council raises," he noted.
In other matters, council approved contracts for lawn care by two different companies for various fields and parks this year.
For $42,750, Tammie's Lawn Care will cut grass weeds at the Valley Fork Baseball and Soccer fields, at Riverfront Park, and at East End Hillside Park.For $7,500, Sneigles Landscape and Lawn Care will cut the grass and weeds at the Valley Fork Softball field.
Meanwhile, council approved doing a joint application with the city of Wheeling and Marshall County for a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant through the United States EPA.
"If approved, it will create an energy efficiency program for homeowners and businesses that would help subsidize purchase and installation of things like insulation, HVAC, windows/doors, appliances, etc.," Healy said.
Council's next regular meeting is slated for 6 p.m. March 5.
