As a college student with a great love for his hometown, Wheeling resident Michael Borsuk decided to carry the Wheeling flag as he crossed the finish line for the 5K Run presented by WVU Medicine on Saturday during the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine.
The 20-year-old Marshall University student explained that carrying the Wheeling flag across the finish line was his way of putting on "a little bit of a show" for his hometown.
To represent Wheeling even more, Borsuk was sporting a shirt from DiCarlo's Pizza, one of his favorite eateries in town.
"I love my hometown and this community, so I just decided to have a little fun this year," said Borsuk. "I'm excited to finish up the race holding that flag."
A frequent face at Wheeling City Council meetings and other events around town, Borsuk admitted on Saturday he has "more civic pride than most." Borsuk added that he strives to be "as good as a citizen as can be," noting the importance of staying current on what was happening around town.
"I try to avoid drama and stick to the facts," noted Borsuk before the race. "I'm trying to show off my city pride today."
