WHEELING - The Mckee family decided to participate in Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine for the first time as a family this year. Husband Derek Mckee participated in the 5K run presented by WVU Medicine Children's, while his wife Morgan participated in the 5K walk presented by WVU Medicine Children's. Their young sons Finn and Rory also participated, Finn finished fourth overall in the Fun Run presented by WVU Medicine Children's, and Rory participated in the Tot Trot presented by WVU Medicine Children's.

"Morgan started running 5Ks last summer and I've always ran 5Ks but we've had some injuries and we're just happy to be back running them and having fun again," Derek Mckee said.

The Mckee family plan on making the Wellness Weekend an annual family tradition.

"We're trying to do different traditions with the kids, things that are healthy, and fun, or outdoors, so this was just perfect," Derek Mckee said. "It's a fun weekend down here at the beautiful Waterfront and hopefully it'll be something we do every year as a family."

A long time friend of Derek Mckee, Chris Sengewalt completed his first ever half marathon.

"Previously I've done a few 10-mile races in Pittsburgh, but I've done the 5K at this event for the past couple years and decided to try out the main event," Sengewalt said.

Mckee and Sengewalt's friend group that included friends from high school and college decided to challenge each other a couple of years ago.

"A couple years ago we realized we were getting a little better and decided that we needed to shape it up. We challenged each other for about 12 weeks of fitness and nutrition. My plan was just to run so I've been running for the past two years and working towards the goal of doing a half marathon," Sengewalt said.

Sengewalt's children also participated in the Wellness Weekend events, the older children joining the Fun Run and the youngest running the Tot Trot.
