About 1,000 awaken this morning without power as heavy rain, high winds buffets area overnight

The storm system promised for the area hit overnight Thursday, as heavy rain and high wind coupled to bring down trees and power lines and leave about 1,000 customers in our region this morning without power.
According to Appalachian Power’s outage map, the biggest swath of customers with no lights stretches from Sherrard to parts of Elm Grove, affecting 563 customers. There also are scattered outages in Cameron and throughout sections of Ohio County.
The strongest push during the storm came around 4 a.m. as high wind pushed sheets of rain sideways.
Crews from Appalachian Power, a division of American Electric Power, currently are assessing all the outages. No estimated time has been set for power to be restored.
