Firefighters Battle Pair Of Overnight Blazes In Marshall County

Photo provided Firefighters battle a house fire on Second Street in Moundsville early Friday morning, one of two fires that occurred in Marshall County overnight.
Two fires in Marshall County between Thursday night and Friday morning kept several fire departments very busy, according to Marshall County Emergency Management Director Tom Hart.
The first occurred at the former Boggs Run School on Boggs Run Road near Benwood. Hart said the call on the fire came into Marshall County 911 around 10:05 p.m. and, because of the size of the blaze, led to the arrival of volunteer fire departments from Benwood, McMechen, Sherrard, Mt. Olivet, Glen Dale, Moundsville, Limestone, Mozart and Cameron, along with Marshall County EMS, Marshall County EMA and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
Hart said the fire was brought under control in about two hours and officially extinguished around 4:15 a.m. One firefighter was transported to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital with chest pains, while another was treated on site for smoke inhalation.
A second fire, this one a house on Second Street in Moundsville was called in around 2:28 a.m. No one was living in the house at the time of the fire, which was brought under control in about 30 minutes. That fire brought out the Moundsville City Fire Department, the volunteer fire departments from Moundsville, Glen Dale, Limestone and Cameron, Moundsville Police, Marshall County EMS and EMA, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and AEP.
No injuries were reported at the second fire and the cause of both fires remains undetermined, Hart said.
