Wheeling Post 1 Captures 19th American Legion State Baseball Championship

MORGANTOWN — Wheeling Post 1 breezed to its 19th West Virginia American Legion Baseball State Tournament championship Monday afternoon with a 6-0 blanking of Beckley Post 32 Bash on Dale Miller Field inside Mylan Park.
Wheeling Central alum Seth Cover went the distance on the mound, allowing just three hits.
Post 1 scored solo runs in the third and fourth frames before busting the game wide open with four tallies in the bottom of the sixth.
Brady Ernest homered in the four-run outburst, while Chris Upton doubled down the right field line to knock in two.
Upton was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Wheeling now advances to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 6, when it meets the New Jersey state champion at 9:30 a.m. at Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover, Md.
