FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Triadelphia Closing Sept. 19

Ohio, Marion Counties To Receive More Aid

TRIADELPHIA — Those who want to talk to a FEMA representative in person about aid for the June floods in Ohio County will have until Sept. 19 to do it.

Meanwhile, government agencies in Ohio and Marion counties now have the opportunity to recoup resources through FEMA as well.

According to a FEMA news release, the Ohio County Disaster Recovery Center at the Triadelphia Community Center at 4453 National Road will close permanently at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. The center in Marion County, an area also affected by floods that weekend, will close permanently Friday, Sept. 12.

Both counties learned late Thursday night that they have been approved for FEMA public assistance, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced. Public assistance provides supplemental grants to state and local governments and certain private nonprofits to cover their costs for debris removal, response costs, and infrastructure restoration.

That assistance, for instance, can reimburse emergency management agencies for the overtime they logged responding to the disaster.

“This Public Assistance from FEMA is critical to aiding our recovery efforts in Marion and Ohio counties,” Morrisey said in a news release. “I am grateful to President Trump for once again delivering for West Virginia, and to our federal delegation for their support. We are going to keep coming together as Team West Virginia until these communities make a full recovery.”

Those affected by the June flash floods will still be able to register with FEMA for individual assistance until Sept. 22, but will have to do so over the phone at 1-800-621-3362 or online at DisasterAssistance.gov.

According to FEMA, those affected should also file an insurance claim. Those with homeowners, renters, or flood insurance should file a claim before applying for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If a policy does not cover all disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance.

While the claim is processing, FEMA assistance may be able to help with uninsured losses. This can include help if you are displaced, need temporary lodging, require basic home repair costs, or lose personal property. The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov.

For more information or additional help, download the FEMA app to complete your application and find other resources, or call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 for assistance in multiple languages. Those who use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service should give FEMA their number for that service.

Starting at $2.99/week.
