Murder Indictment Returned Against Fairmont Man in Death of Wheeling Woman

WHEELING — A Fairmont man accused of killing 49-year-old Christine Lynn King in July 2023 was indicted on a murder charge this week by an Ohio County grand jury.

Dennis Terrell Evans, 37, was also indicted on one charge of first-degree robbery and one charge of first-degree sexual assault, according to the Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office.

On July 28, 2023, police were called to the Fink Street area on the southern end of Wheeling Island for a woman found unconscious in a yard with injuries. She was later identified as King and taken to WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown to be treated.

She later was transferred to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, where she died from her injuries on Oct. 20, 2023.

The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office, after conducting an autopsy, determined King had died via homicide as a result of blunt force trauma. Police charged Evans with murder on May 1.

Evans has been jailed since September 2023 after being arrested and convicted of an unrelated crime, felony strangulation. He is serving a three-year prison sentence for that conviction at the St. Marys Correctional Center and Jail in Pleasants County.

Starting at $2.99/week.
