MOUNDSVILLE — WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital is planning to open a new outpatient clinic in Moundsville, said Tony Martinelli, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital.
Martinelli gave an update on the hospital and its clinic plans during a breakfast meeting hosted recently by the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce.
He said the Reynolds Rapid Care facility has outgrown its current space and is going to move into a new space in the plaza beside the Aldi grocery store along W.Va. 2 in Moundsville. He anticipates it will be ready in about six weeks.
“It will be state of the art and as nice as anything in the metro area,” Martinelli said.
The opening of the new Rapid Care site is Phase 1. The second phase will be the eventual opening of a primary care office next to the rapid care. The third phase will be the opening of a physical therapy office in the plaza as well.
He noted having these services in the plaza instead of at the main hospital will free up many parking spaces at the hospital’s busy parking lot.
Meanwhile, Martinelli also talked about the “exciting upgrades” completed at the hospital including two new operating rooms and an adjacent waiting room with its own patient pick-up and drop-off area. The two-year project cost about $25 million.
“The result was incredible. It’s as modern as anywhere in the country,” he said.
The hospital also invested in a Da Vinci robotic surgery system and two orthopedic surgery robots. And the investment has paid off three years faster than projected, he added.
Regarding employment at the facility, Martinelli said the hospital now employs 650 workers. The average salary, not including administrators, ranges between $20 and $32 per hour.
“We’ve had significant growth and wage growth. That allows for families to stay here and have jobs here,” he added.
Since 2017, about $60 million has been invested into Reynolds Memorial Hospital.
He also noted the future new WVU Medicine St. Joseph Regional Cancer Complex, which will be constructed at the former Ohio Valley Medical Center site in Wheeling, will benefit the Ohio Valley and beyond. He said it will be a “paradigm shift’ and the “epicenter” for cancer care for the region.
The groundbreaking is slated to occur during the first quarter of 2026. The 125,000 square foot facility is anticipated to be complete in 2028. In addition to the treatment center the facility will have its own pharmacy and laboratory.
