Man in Custody as Police Investigate Possible Abduction in Moundsville; Child Found Safe
MOUNDSVILLE — A man was taken into custody Tuesday night in Moundsville as part of an investigation into the possible abduction of an 11-year-old girl, according to Marshall County Sheriff Mike Dougherty.
According to a post from Dougherty on the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, at around 5:24 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of a possible child abduction at the Walmart in Moundsville. The child, Dougherty said, had been messaging her family, indicating that she had been taken from her home in another state by an adult male.
In coordination with the West Virginia State Police, Moundsville Police Department and the FBI, law enforcement arrived at the scene and initiated a lockdown of the Walmart. Officers located the girl and an adult female inside the store.
The woman was detained and questioned, Dougherty said, providing officers information leading to the location of the male suspect. Law enforcement then went to the suspect’s home, where he was taken into custody for questioning.
The investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday night, Dougherty said, and no other details were being released to protect the integrity of the case and the privacy of the victim.
