Marshall County Assessor Eric Buzzard Has Bond Revoked

Marshall County Assessor Eric Buzzard

Marshall County Assessor Eric Buzzard, accused of seven felony accounts of fraudulent schemes, had his bond revoked Friday, according to the special prosecutor on the case.

Ohio County Prosecutor Shawn Turak, serving as special prosecutor, said Friday night that the state moved to revoke his bond Friday for having contact with state witnesses. The court order said he would be held without bond until further order from the court.

Buzzard was arrested in June on the fraudulent schemes charges accused of partnering with a local auto dealer to purchase vehicles for the Marshall County Commission at an inflated rate and pocketing the difference. Allegedly, Buzzard received more than $30,000 from that operation.

At a September Marshall County Commission meeting – where commissioners approved a petition to start the process of removing Buzzard from office – attorney Don Tennant claimed that, in all, Buzzard derived around $118,000 in personal benefits from a variety of schemes, including misuse of county purchase cards and the county assessor evaluation fund.

As part of his bond agreement, Buzzard has not been able to perform his duties as assessor.

Buzzard’s alleged co-conspirator, car dealer Robert Meade II, has already pleaded not guilty in Marshall County Magistrate Court to seven counts of fraudulent schemes and one count of conspiracy against the state.
