JOHN “JACK” BLACKWELL
John Charles “Jack” Blackwell, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on September 22, 1951, in Wheeling, WV, and throughout his life, he exemplified dedication and passion in both his personal and professional endeavors.
Jack retired from Bayer Chemical Company after 30 plus years of service. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family.
An avid photographer, Jack possessed a unique ability to capture life’s beauty through the lens. His fascination with computers and all things technical endeared him especially to those who knew him well, as he embraced what his family fondly referred to as “nerdy, techie stuff.”
However, his most cherished times were enjoying his grandchildren; teaching them, making them laugh and loving them. As he always told them, “I like you, I love you, I’m proud of you…and I think you’re kinda cool.”
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jesse and Grace (Damsel) Blackwell, and his sister, Patti Krupinski. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 51 years, Sandi (Rycerz) Blackwell, who was his faithful partner in all aspects of life. His legacy also lives on through his children, Jonathan (Bethany) Blackwell and Jessie (Doug) Lucas; his brother, Bob (Jan) Blackwell; and his adored grandchildren: Dougie (Abby), Evelyn, Daykota, Aubrey, Chance, Josie, Asher, Elias, Joel, Justin, Briella, and expected twin girls. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends during visitation on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV. Funeral services honoring Jack’s life will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 10 AM at the Elm Grove Chapel, followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.

Jack will be remembered for his warmth, his “punny” sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
