Ohio County Shooting Suspect Dead After Police Pursuit; Victim Hospitalized in Critical But Stable Condition
WHEELING — An early Saturday shooting led to one victim in stable but critical condition, a pursuit and the alleged shooter dead by a self-inflicted gunshot.
Ohio County deputies were called to the Triadelphia area to a report of a gunshot victim around 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
Ohio County Sheriff Nelson Croft said that the victim was able to drive herself to the Marathon gas station in Elm Grove where medics found her and transported her to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.
Croft said the victim advised that she had been shot twice with a shotgun through her car window by her ex-boyfriend.
“Out of respect for the victim, we’re not releasing any names right now,” Croft said.
After the victim was taken to Wheeling Hospital, a “be on the lookout” report was placed on the ex-boyfriend’s truck which was located near Sherrard Middle School by Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies.
Croft said the shooter led deputies on a pursuit down Garvin’s Lane and passed over Big Wheeling Creek. He said that the driver made nearly a complete circle before being boxed in by deputies at a Mt. Olivet car wash.
“Deputies boxed the driver in, and unfortunately, he got out with a rifle and took his life,” Croft said.
