CAMERON — A coal miner was flown from American Consolidated Natural Resources’ Marshall County Coal Mine to WVU Medicine Ruby Hospital in Morgantown on Tuesday after being pinned against a piece of equipment in the mine, said Marshall County EMA Director Tom Hart.
Hart said a 911 call came in at 3:43 p.m. from the mine’s Cameron Portal located on Goshorn Woods Road outside of Cameron. EMS arrived on the scene at 3:53 p.m. and EMS, air medical and fire fighters were waiting for the miner to be brought to the surface. The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County EMA, Health Net and EMS all were on the scene, according to Hart.
The Cameron VFD transported the flight crew from the landing pad to the portal to assist the EMS crew. It took 40 minutes to bring the injured miner to the surface, Hart said.
The miner, who Hart said was in his 40s, had injuries to his pelvic and abdominal areas and was conscious as he was taken to the hospital.
