Weirton Teen Charged With Making Terroristic Threats Against Franciscan U. Faculty
WEIRTON – A Weirton resident is facing charges for allegedly making online threats against faculty at the Franciscan University of Steubenville.
David Joseph Fisher, 18, 185 Colliers Way, faces felony charges of terroristic threats and is presently being held at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond. The arrest was announced Wednesday morning.
Weirton Police report officers were contacted the afternoon of Jan. 20 by the university’s director of public safety, who noted he had been made aware of a threat of physical harm to university professors posted on a private online message board.
The message allegedly was posted by Fisher, according to Weirton Police.
Officers made contact with Fisher at his residence, transporting him to the police department where he was interviewed and placed under arrest on the felony charges.
Fisher was arraigned in Hancock County Magistrate Court. He is next scheduled to appear Feb. 19, according to online records, with representation by Alex Risovich as legal counsel.
The charge of terroristic threat, under West Virginia Code 61-6-24(b), includes penalties of fines of between $5,000 and $25,000, prison time of one to three years, or both, if convicted.
