WPD K9 Sheik Dies In Collision With Vehicle
WHEELING – Sheik, a Wheeling Police Department K-9, has died from injuries after being struck by a vehicle, the department announced Wednesday afternoon.
Sheik was struck by a vehicle in the early morning hours of Feb. 10 on River Road. She was transported to a veterinary hospital in Washington, Pennsylvania, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not at fault.
Sheik, a Belgian Malinois, was born on June 4, 2022, and began her service with the Wheeling Police Department in November 2024. She was trained as a dual-purpose K9, specializing in narcotics detection and patrol duties.
Sheik was the youngest and newest member of the department’s K9 Unit. The WPD expressed appreciation for her service to the community.
