WPHS Welcoming Students To Learn ‘All About Park’

WHEELING – Eighth-grade students in Ohio County are invited to come learn “All About Park” next week at Wheeling Park High School.

WPHS hosts “All About Park” each year to give next school year’s incoming students a chance to tour the school and learn about opportunities there.

The event is set to take place from 5-8 p.m. on Feb. 26. Students with last names A-L will attend from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with those with names starting with M-Z coming in from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

“We’re very lucky to have great educational opportunities at Wheeling Park High School,” Principal Meredith Dailer said. “This is a chance for families to come see the vast variety we have in comparison to other schools.

“I always say bigger is better. We have bigger and better facilities as well as an extensive curriculum. We are able to offer what other schools cannot handle. You can check every single box at Wheeling Park High School.”

During “All About Park,” students get the chance to experience career and technical education (CTE) class offerings, learn about clubs, organizations and extra-curricular activities at WPHS, consider academic opportunities there and receive information on class scheduling for next fall.

Activities begin with a welcome in the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center, Dailer said. From there, the students and their families will disperse to go tour the facility.

Teachers will be in their classrooms, and coaches also will be present to talk with visitors.

“Coaches from all of our sports teams will be available, and all our curriculum will be on display throughout the building,” Dailer continued.

The CTE classrooms also will be hosting an open house during the event.

“The hope is that the kids will be excited to come to school here, and that they find something that sparks their interest in their path for high school,” she continued.

“We are always very proud of the wide variety of programs we offer at Wheeling Park High School. We will display all we have, and hopefully students will find a home and be excited about their future here.”

Typically 300 to 350 families attend the event, according to Dailer. Families who can’t make it to the Feb. 26 event should reach out to the school, she said.

The event is open not just to eighth-grade students, but also students from outside Ohio County Schools who are considering a transfer to WPHS. A “shadow day” is being planned for those students and families only who are not able to attend “All About Park.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
