Form Energy Signs Deal to Power AI Data Centers

Photo by Craig Howell Form Energy, this week, announced a new project agreement with Crusoe in support of the company's AI data centers. The battery systems will be constructed at Form Factory 1 in Weirton.

WEIRTON – One week after announcing its first international deal, Form Energy entered into an agreement for its iron-air battery systems to support the energy needs of artificial intelligence data centers for a Colorado-based AI factory company.

Officials with Form Energy and Crusoe made the announcement Tuesday while in Houston for CERAWeek 2026.

The agreement includes the delivery of 12 gigawatt-hours of multi-day energy storage systems for Crusoe’s AI data centers, beginning next year. Under the agreement, Crusoe has secured reserved volume, pricing and delivery terms, ensuring access to Form Energy’s iron-air battery technology as it scales its AI infrastructure.

“Powering the AI economy requires reliable, scalable and cost-effective energy solutions,” said Mateo Jaramillo, co-founder and CEO of Form Energy. “This partnership with Crusoe, a market leader in energy-first AI infrastructure, demonstrates how multi-day energy storage can unlock new capacity for data centers while strengthening domestic manufacturing and delivering the firm, reliable power needed to support the next generation of AI infrastructure.”

It would be the 10th project publicly announced by Form Energy in recent years and comes shortly after a deal with FuturEnergy Ireland for a battery system to be built in 2028.

All battery systems will be manufactured at Form Energy’s Form Factory 1 in Weirton.

“The future of AI depends on access to abundant, reliable power delivered at speed,” said Cully Cavness, co-founder, president and chief strategy officer at Crusoe. “This agreement with Form Energy reinforces Crusoe’s commitment to energy innovation and establishes a new model for securing energy infrastructure at scale, enabling us to meet growing demand while building a more resilient and sustainable system.”

Company officials note that, together, Form Energy and Crusoe are accelerating speed to power, strengthening domestic manufacturing and scaling American innovation to meet rising electricity demand, positioning the United States to lead in the AI-energy nexus.

Form Energy’s iron-air battery systems are designed to provide 100 hours of power. After announcing its plans to locate in Weirton in 2022, the company celebrated the completion of the initial stages of Form Factory 1 in September 2024 and began trial operations. Now under full operations, the company has agreements for projects in at least seven states as well as Ireland.

Starting at $2.99/week.
