Ohio County Schools Back Online

WHEELING – Facilities within Ohio County Schools were back online Monday after spending nearly a week without internet service.

School officials acknowledged Monday that on Tuesday, Feb. 24, the school district’s Information Technology Department detected evidence of a potential cyber security attack affecting Ohio County Schools.

“As a precaution, access to the internet was temporarily disabled while we conducted an investigation,” a statement released by the school district said.

“At this time, we have no evidence of any risk to student or employee data. Nevertheless, we have worked and are working diligently to investigate the matter, ensure our systems remain secure – and as of today, return to full functionality.”

The school district acknowledged “the internet outage caused some disruptions, and we can’t thank our staff enough for working with us through this process.”

“Thank you for your cooperation and continued dedication to our students and school community,” the statement continued.

It also thanked Pat Riddle, technology coordinator; Seth Bell, assistant technology coordinator; and their entire team for their “rapid response” to the situation.

Through the 1:1 technology program in Ohio County Schools, students in grades 3-12 are each provided Lenovo Chromebooks for both classroom and home use. The district uses Schoology as its primary learning management system.

The youngest students in grades pre-K through 2 receive Ipads.

Starting at $2.99/week.
