A double amputee who fled from Belmont County authorities Saturday morning near High Ridge Road in St. Clairsville has been taken into custody, Belmont County Sheriff James Zusack said.
Authorities were called to the area early Saturday morning for reports of a man driving through several yard on High Ridge Road near Maple Drive. The man, who authorities learned had both legs amputated, fled into the woods in that area. Several law enforcement offices were stationed on a service road near the entrance to the woods late Saturday morning. The Ohio state authorities assisted with an aircraft to get an aerial view of the woods.
The man was taken into custody around 1:25 p.m. Saturday. Zusak said there were no injuries reported in the incident. Further details will be announced later.
Members of the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office and St. Clairsville, Bellaire, Shadyside and Powhatan Point police departments were among law enforcement at the scene.
