House explosion reported in Steubenville

STEUBENVILLE — Emergency crews flooded Rosslyn Boulevard Tuesday following a reported house explosion in Steubenville that neighbors said shook nearby homes.

Residents reported the blast was powerful enough to blow out windows in neighboring houses. Witnesses also reported hearing a man calling for help from inside the collapsed structure. According to neighbors, a young woman was able to escape the home and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The house reportedly collapsed inward, leaving the roof nearly level with the ground.

The incident occurred at 202 Rosslyn Blvd., where officials confirmed at least one person was trapped in the debris.

Police cordoned the street off while neighbors were evacuated. Columbia Gas was also called to the scene to shut gas off.

Responding agencies included the Jefferson County Technical Rescue Team, Toronto Fire Department, Wintersville Fire Department, Steubenville Fire Department and American Electric Power, along with other emergency responders.

Further details have not yet been released and crews remained at the scene.
