WCDS Third-Graders Donate $1,000 To Ohio County Animal Shelter

Wheeling Country Day School third-graders raised more than $1,000 for the Ohio County Animal Shelter through a student-run Market Day, where they designed and operated stations offering goods and services such as face painting and rubber-band bracelets.

The students presented Ohio County Animal Shelter Manager Dave Campbell with $1,024 in donations. Campbell visited the classroom with one of the shelter’s dogs as the students turned over the funds.

Third-grade teacher Madison McDonald said the project was entirely student-driven, from planning stations to pricing items and selecting the beneficiary.

“They pushed the limits,” McDonald said. “They decided who was running what, how much product they needed to make, customer service, business names. They took it over and ran with it. It was truly inspiring.”

Campbell said the students “put in their blood, sweat and tears and created everything.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
