Wheeling Native Alexis Bordas Announces Transfer To WVU
ALEXIS BORDAS
WHEELING — As Alexis Bordas herself wrote on Monday — ‘Country Roads, take me home.’
Bordas, a three-time Mary Ostrowski Award winner at Wheeling Park who recently wrapped up a freshman season at Duquesne which saw her start all 31 games for the Dukes and average 15.5 points per game, announced Monday on X that she would be transferring to West Virginia University.
Bordas’ 15.5 points per game led Duquesne, and ranked her fifth in the Atlantic-10 conference. She joins a West Virginia team that made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past season, and has made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. The Mountaineers won the Big 12 conference championship last season too.
Bordas was a standout for Duquesne this year, tying for the second-most 3-point makes in a season in program history with 90, winning conference Rookie of the Week honors four times, and making the A-10 All-Rookie team. She scored a career-high 38 points against Pittsburgh in December.
Wheeling Park’s all-time leading scorer posted on X, formerly Twitter, a picture of herself in a WVU jersey on Monday, accompanied by the caption “Take me home, country roads #committed.” After a highly decorated W.Va. High School career that includes a 2024 Class AAAA state championship, Bordas has a new home base back in the Mountain State.
