WHEELING – It was meant to be an opportunity for some mother-daughter time over spring break, but Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kim Miller found herself addressing students at Harvard Business School.
Miller’s oldest daughter, Kayley Miller, is presently pursuing a master’s degree there, and Miller traveled this week to the Harvard Business School campus in Boston to visit Kayley.
While there, Miller had the opportunity to attend class with Kayley as her guest. It was during her leadership and corporate accountability class that the professor asked Miller to share with the students her perspective as a public school superintendent.
“I had the opportunity to speak directly to a class of 95 students from around the world representing 30 countries,” she said. “I spoke about public schools in West Virginia and the dynamics of our state’s demographics.
“The students were extremely receptive and asked many questions about obstacles and challenges (faced by public schools).”
She said the students asked about the differences between private and public entities in West Virginia and what issues each face.
Miller achieved her undergraduate, master’s and doctorate (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from West Virginia University.
She was selected as West Virginia’s “Superintendent of the Year” for 2025-2026, and she served as the first female president of the West Virginia Association of School Administrators for the 2024-2025 school year.
She was awarded the Milken Educator Award in 2002.
Kayley Miller, meanwhile, was a standout student at Stanford University, where she also was head cheerleader.
“I’m so proud of Kayley and her representing West Virginia and a strong public-school background,” Miller said.
