WHEELING – Paisley Farrier had never run a 5K race in her young life, but it didn’t take her long to learn the ropes.

The 14-year-old Bellaire Middle School graduate was the first female finisher during Saturday morning’s women’s 5K run, presented by Bordas & Bordas, as part of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend, presented by WVU Medicine. She clocked out in 18 minutes, 14 seconds, which was nearly two full seconds ahead of Meghan McNabb’s 20:04.

“It was really fun keeping up with the boys. I talked to them the whole time,” she said. “It was really challenging, but it was really fun.”

Farrier’s time was the fifth fastest in the entire 5K field.

Farrier is the daughter of Bellaire High School girls’ basketball coach John Farrier and his wife, Ashley. Both were basketball standouts during their high school days, John at Bellaire and Ashley at Shadyside, where she scored more than 1,000 career points.

“I ran the 800 and 1600 in track in middle school and I ran cross country which was two miles,” the young Farrier said. “That helped me today.”

Finishing third was Michelle Campion (20:30), while Allison Wojtacek (20:49) was fourth and Aubrey Duggan (24:03) rounded out the top 5.

Starting at $2.99/week.
