WHEELING - Belmont resident Dusty Butler wasn’t letting any weather stop him from participating in the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic, part of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine.

Saturday morning was Butler's first time competing in the race and wasn't about to let the rain that threatened from the skies deter him from completing his first half marathon.

To prevent the potential rain from slowing him down, Butler wore a trash bag over his shirt in hopes of keeping him dry during his run.

Luckily for him and the plethora of racers, the rain held off until after the race.

"It’s not raining now, but I had already signed up. So I was like, I’m doing it. I did all of the training, so I’m gonna do it, whether it’s raining or sunny," Butler said.

He added that his friend Tyler Moreland asked him to run in the half marathon with him which he said was more than happy to oblige.

"I’ve done the 5k here before. I did a 5k Turkey Trot for Thanksgiving, but this will be my first half marathon," Butler said. "I’m also doing Tough as Nails (Sunday), and then next year I think I’m gonna try to beat whatever my time is today."

Starting at /week.
