Man Arrested Following Alleged Domestic Violence Incident, Pursuit

MOUNDSVILLE -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident involving James Isaac Wood at the AAA Trailer Park at about 12:30 p.m. May 22.
Upon arrival, deputies learned Wood allegedly assaulted a woman and caused property damage inside her residence. As deputies approached, Wood fled the scene in a red Dodge Neon.
Deputies pursued Wood through Moundsville and across the 12th Street Bridge into Ohio, continuing south on Ohio 7. Due to the serious nature of the alleged offense, deputies continued efforts to stop the vehicle.
The pursuit ended when Wood abruptly applied his brakes, lost control on the wet roadway, traveled into a grassy area and struck a fence. Deputies then apprehended Wood and took him into custody.
Wood faces numerous charges in West Virginia related to the incident, in addition to an active parole violation warrant. The Ohio State Highway Patrol advised it also will file charges in Ohio.
Authorities said this was the second incident involving Wood within the past week. He allegedly committed a prior domestic assault and fled before deputies arrived.
At the conclusion of the pursuit, wet road conditions contributed to a collision in which a responding deputy's cruiser struck another deputy's vehicle after the suspect's car came to a stop. Both deputies were transported to WVU Reynolds Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.
"The Marshall County Sheriff's Office takes domestic violence incidents very seriously. Pursuing this suspect into Ohio was necessary to protect the victim and safeguard our community. I am grateful that our deputies are okay and that there were no serious injuries. We thank the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their swift assistance and partnership," Sheriff Mike Dougherty said.
