Tennant Takes Seat On Wetzel School Board, Glasscock And Castilow To Return

There will be one new — and young — face on the Wetzel County Board of Education, as Devon Tennant defeated incumbent Christine Nice on Tuesday in their election in Wetzel County.

Tennant upended Nice 1,044-813. A 2023 graduate of Magnolia High School, Tennant is a student at Bethany College who also serves as an assistant funeral director in Hundred.

He will join two other incumbents, who returned to their seats in Tuesday’s election. Jimmy Glasscock retained his seat by holding off challenger Ronnie Wade, 1,061-787, while fellow incumbent Brian Castilow defeated Scott Emch, 944-900.

The Wetzel County schools levy also passed, 1,319-860.

The general election for Wetzel County Commission was finalized Tuesday as well. Mike Blair officially earned the Democratic nomination and will face Republican Jimmy Glasscock Jr. Both ran unopposed Tuesday. They will battle to fill the seat of Carla McBee, who did not run for re-election.

In the New Martinsville city elections, Ron Brill defeated Steve Yoho 76-45 for the Second Ward Council seat, while Joe Smith defeated Jeff Montgomery 75-41 for the Third Ward Council seat. Kim Whiteman ran unopposed for city recorder, as did Police Chief Tim Cecil, Fourth Ward Council member Steve Pallisco and Street Commissioner Tom Lemons.
