WHEELING - Children ages 4 and younger participated in the annual Tiny Tot Trot presented by Bordas & Bordas at the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine.
The trot is an opportunity for the younger crowd of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine to get some exercise.
The race saw two heats — 4 and 5-year-olds race first, followed by 3 and under. Both races took place on Water Street, near Heritage Port.
The Ramirez family from Worthington, Ohio, saw 5-year-old Elizabeth Ramirez and 3-year-old Catherine Ramirez run in the Tiny Tot Trot presented by Bordas & Bordas, while 9-year-old Oliver Ramirez and 7-year-old Oliver Ramirez ran in the Ogden Fun Run presented by Bordas & Bordas earlier in the day Saturday.
The Ramirez kids’ aunt Chelsea Janusz said that the race has become a longstanding family tradition dating back before she was even born.
Her father and the kids’ grandfather, Ted Janusz, is from Pittsburgh and for nearly 40 years would come and participate in the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic.
"He did a bunch of half marathons, and then brought his children up running these races, and so now his grandchildren are also running these races," Janusz said. "My dad ran the half marathon before some of us in my family were even born. So then we started doing the Fun Run, and just continued the tradition every single year."
Chelsea Janusz doesn't believe she has missed a single Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine since in elementary school at the latest.
The children's mother Heidi Ramirez and her father were completing the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic as they were running in the Tot Trot.
Five-year-old Caden Sengewalt also competed in the Tot Trot where he actually crossed the finish line before any of the other children. His parents Jordan and Ryan Sengewalt competed in the Ogden Newspapers Half-Marathon Classic.
Caden said that he enjoys racing because it is fun and relaxing, and added that next year he plans to compete in the Ogden Fun Run. His brother Grayson Sengewalt also competed in the Tot Trot.
"We’re super proud of both of them," Jordan Sengewalt said.
